DevBlog 49 - Quick Update

Hello and welcome to the 49th CardLife DevBlog,

It’s only a short DevBlog this week as everyone has been pretty much working on bugs in anticipation of our next big update to the game, so let’s get to it:

Ongoing Work: Day/Night & Darkness

Brian has now finished the code on the Day/Night system and has passed it along to Thor to work on the art side to make it look nice and atmospheric - which also includes our first iteration of cardboard clouds :).

Brian has also finished his work on the darkness system which means that when you dig deeper it gets darker and you will then have to light your way either by holding a torch or by placing wall torches. This really adds a sense of atmosphere into the world and when you add our new underground music along with caves it starts to feel like a real world.

Ongoing Work: Storage

Alessio has been continuing on his mission to add chests and crates to the game. He’s got a version working locally but he’s started to work on the server saving so that when you go back to your storage, your items are still there. Storage is also the first step in starting to add crafting tables to the game as they will use the same interface system we have developed which switches the crafting UI panel to something else.

Ongoing Work: Big Patch

As I mentioned last week we are working on our biggest patch to date and everyone else has been working towards this by fixing a lot of small issues that have arisen from merging everyone's work. I’m crossing my fingers that we will hopefully be able to launch the patch soon.
