Hello and welcome to the 53rd CardLife DevBlog,
Two patches, lots to share and a new DevBlog - so let’s get to it:
Patch 45 & 46
We pushed patch 45 live during the week which should have had a significant performance increase. Patch 46 has gone live with this DevBlog and here are the major changes:
- There are now two buttons on the crafting inventory window: Craft & Customise
- Craft allows to you to directly craft the item without entering the Connect the Dots screen - this will give you the default shape
- Customise takes you to the Connect the Dots screen and allows you to customise the shape as normal. Some items cannot be customised and as such this button will be greyed out.
- You can now craft multiple items by typing the number directly into the box rather than using the + and - buttons (up to 99)
- New decorations have been added
- Some decorations like the Statue and Billboard were missing collision which meant you couldn’t delete them - this has now been fixed
- You can now consume food using the 0 key
- The main menu now supports more aspect ratios like 21:9, 16:10 etc
- Pickups should now no longer fall through the ground if you respawn far away
- Improved placement of wall torches in caves
- A further reduction in client and server memory usage
Ongoing Work: Memory Leak
We have now identified where the memory leak is and we are in the process of fixing it. Finding it is actually the hardest part so we will push this live as soon as we have a working fix.
Ongoing Work: Building Exclusion Zones
Cian has now started to work on building exclusion zones. This means that when you place down a building piece it will have an area of influence that will prevent other players from building close by - this won’t prevent editing the terrain or placing terrain though. This should prevent people from just building a random building piece outside someone's house that they can’t remove - which we have already seen on one of the servers.
Ongoing Work: Storage and Dropping Items
Alessio has nearly finished his storage work which should see the database remembering where each item was in your inventory/hotbar so you don’t have to keep reordering it every time you login. This should be coming in the next patch. He will then move onto allowing you to drop items from your inventory so that you can get rid of your clutter.
Ongoing Work: Forge, Furnace and Ingots
The art team has also been very busy and Mike has now finished all of the new ores/refined ores which I can’t wait to put into the game. The ores should hopefully be in the next update we push live with refined ores coming once we have created the Furnace which will allow to smelt the ores into ingots. You will then be able to use the Forge to make metal items. This will be the first round of us adding the actual crafting progression of the game - as currently what’s live is very placeholder with minimal materials. I’m really looking forward to this :)
