DevBlog 23 - Become a Founder!

Hello and welcome to the 23rd CardLife DevBlog,

We have lots to talk about this week - a new patch, what we’ve been up to and a new Founder’s Pack that you can check out, so let's get to it:

Founder's Pack

If you have been following CardLife for a while, you will know that we have always planned on being a pay up front game i.e. not a free-to-play game. This means that we can focus solely on the gameplay without worrying about having to add an in-game monetization model. Currently the game is totally free to download and play and it will remain this way until we feel we have implemented our core gameplay loop i.e. connect the dots crafting, combat, building etc. But we wanted to offer our fans the ability to buy the game now at a heavily reduced price with some additional benefits - and so we have introduced the Founder’s Pack.

The Founder’s Pack is an optional pack that allows you to purchase the current game and makes you a Founding member. This means that you will receive all future updates (apart from major DLC expansion) for free and you will gain the following exclusive rewards:

Both decorations will be given to your account on release of the Building Update while the Forum Badge and In-game Title you will receive immediately.

The Founder’s Pack is a time limited opportunity and we will only be offering the above rewards to Founding members. As an additional bonus Founding members will also receive all future rewards from any other pre-release packs that we offer and access to our Early Adopters forum.

Updated Homepage & F.A.Q.

As part of the Founder’s Pack update we have also updated our website with a new homepage outlining the game features we are planning on implementing and a new Frequently Asked Questions page that goes into more detail for the vision of the game. This should hopefully give you a better idea of where CardLife is headed and what our future plans are. If you think any questions are missing or need more information please feel to contact us via the Forums or via the Mail.

Patch Notes (26)

We have also pushed Patch 26 live and this should automatically download via the launcher. Here are the patch notes:

  • New Hand tool has been added that allows you to harvest bushes, cut down trees and mine dirt with your hands but at a slower rate
  • New Sickle tool has been added that allows you to harvest bushes at a faster rate than hands
  • New Hatchet tool has been added that allows you to cut down trees at a faster rate than hands
  • Please note: both wood and berry pickups will have no function until hunger and crafting is implemented (coming soon :))
  • Tools should now only work for their specific function i.e.
    • Spades should only dig dirt
    • Pickaxe should dig dirt and mine stone
    • Sickle should harvest bushes
    • Hatchet should cut down trees
    • Hands should dig dirt, cut down trees and harvest bushes (but slower)
  • We have added new HUD icons to show you what tool is required to mine, dig, harvest or to cut down trees
  • New animations have been added for all tools
  • New visual effects & audio effects have been added for all tools
  • Increased sprint speed
  • Fixed a bug where the client was running out of memory

Ongoing Work: CTD Crafting & Voxel Resolution

We are finally coming to the end of the road with the Connect the Dot crafting system and have begun working on the visual finesse of the screen. Hopefully this means we can actually launch it in an upcoming build so you can customise your character which will be a watershed moment for our team. Aldo has done a really good job on this and we can’t wait to get it into your hands.

Ed has also made some real progress on doubling the width of the voxels which should hugely improve our lodding of the terrain. This will be an ongoing task but he has already started to work on the visual elements of this task which is really promising i.e. smoothing out the terrain and placement/edits of material which has lost some resolution due to this change.

 -----------------------------------------------------------------

This is a big moment for us as a team as it's the first time we have allowed CardLife to be purchased in the almost 11 months we have been live. It’s been an exciting ride so far and long may it continue. I also want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has downloaded the game so far as it has helped us get to where we are now.

As always if you have any feedback, questions or comments please feel free to contact us at any of our social portals: Facebook, Twitter and our very own Forums.

Cheers,

Rich - Lead Designer
