Greetings Founders,
We've been teasing it for a long time, but finally we've added ranged combat to CardLife. This update has been a long time in the making and changes the way combat encounters work in a major way. Also in the 'Draw Your Bow' update, a brand new Crab creature, Creative Mode and lots of other improvements. Check out the full patch notes below!
NEW Ranged Combat
Two new weapons have been added to the game - introducing the Crossbow and Bow. These are the first ranged weapons to be added to CardLife as part of the Age 1 armaments. The Crossbow and Bow can be crafted into Wood, Stone, Copper and Iron variants - each of which has their own respective arrow and bolts ammo. We've made the recipe fairly easy to craft so everyone can start playing with it during early character progression.
All arrows have drop-off when fired, so to use at long range you will need to take the natural drop-off into account. The Crossbow is best used at short range and allows rapid fire, whereas the Bow is best for medium to long range. The longer you aim down the sites with the Bow, your aim will begin to sway so make sure you sway time your shot wisely. The Crossbow doesn't have this drawback, as bolts are automatically held in place by the weapon's priming mechanism. Enemy AI has also been tweaked in order to deal appropriately with players attacking at range, and we'll continue to make further improvements as we continue the game's development.
NEW Creature - Crab
We've added crabs to CardLife! These cute lil' guys are commonly found on beaches and are designed to be fairly easy to dispatch. They drop one single meat when vanquished, but they tend to roam in close-knit packs so its best to engage when one crab in the group is isolated.
NEW Mod - Creative Mode
Our mission for CardLife is to create a platform which is easily accessible to modders. Our work using the Connect the Dots system allows players to create unique structures regardless of their skill level. However, there will be times when modders will go beyond what we expect. In these cases, they will create special mods which can be selected and deselected when starting a new server.
The Creative Mode Mod is our first official CardLife mod. You will be able to craft any item regardless of the resources that you currently hold. Of which the number of items available to craft will grow all the time. In addition to infinite resources, your character will also have a significant increase in health. This will make it very difficult to be killed by CardLife’s more aggressive wildlife and will allow you to go barehanded with a bear and come out of the scuffle with but a slight graze. Creative mode is completely optional to play and doesn't impact the base game. Creative Mode isn't supported in any of our official servers, but players are free to create their own servers if they want to 'get creative' with their friends. Alongside increased health, you’ll also have increased stamina and your hunger levels will no longer need to be maintained. With these unlimited creative tools we can only expect the complexity of your buildings will increase and we can’t wait to see what you make. The Creative Mode Mod will launch very soon and it is entirely optional to play.
NEW Bushes
We've added new bushes to the game world following on from the new trees we added in the last update. The new bushes are Honeyberry, Skyberry and Starberry bushes. The drops from these different bush types and their location vary, but they all have a chance to drop their respective berries which give a little Stamina and Health boost when eaten, as well as Plant Fibre or Plant Essence. Both of these components are useful when crafting wooden items.
NEW Quest Rewards
After adding quests to the game earlier this month, we've decided to add rewards to completed activities. These rewards range from crafting resources to tools and building components. If you have any completed activities since the previous Questworld update. These will be rewarded to you the next time you log into the game on whichever server you were playing on.
NEW Building Intersection Functionality
Previously when you constructed buildings in CardLife you always had to take into account the surrounding terrain. If you placed down any stairs, doors, walls, or foundations that intersected with the terrain around it you wouldn't be able to place it. With the 'Draw Your Bow' update, that no longer is the case. We have changed this so that now any building you place down will automatically intersect with the landscape when placed, which means easier building for everyone.
IMPROVEMENTS
- Draw distance has been extended for trees, bushes and the general scenery on Fantastic graphics settings.
- Imp animation quality has been improved so it is now of a similar standard to other creatures
- Sounds added to the Journal menu to indicate interaction
- Day/Night cycle has been further optimised to improve performance.
The next couple of updates will focus on polishing up the core game experience and fixing as many bugs as we can. This is part of our ongoing efforts to get CardLife onto Steam. We've also started a new feedback thread for this update on the official forums, so don't hesitate to tell us about your experiences.
Thanks all,
Andy - Comms Manager
