Greetings founders,
Today’s DevBlog will focus on quite a few new additions including a new way to play the game with unrestricted creative freedom!
CARDLIFE TEAM EXPANDS!
The first addition of note is that the CardLife team has increased in size to include a new team member. You may have spoken to him within the Discord server or in the CardLife Forums, but if you have not done so yet, do make sure to say hello! I’ll stop typing in the third person and introduce myself fully!
Hi’ I’m Chris Cleveland! I’ve worked within the games industry for several years on games like Jalopy and Tracks: The Train Set Game and I’m excited to be a part of the CardLife team as Community Marketing Manager. This week's Dev Blog is pretty significant and I’m happy to be writing it.
LET’S GET CREATIVE
This week's banner includes an image that many of you may have seen before, a construction from one of our most talented builders that we have suitably named ‘The Statue of Belesar’. Unfortunately, this behemoth is no longer on any of our servers as prior to the Day/Night Update going live we had to wipe all the data. However ‘The Statue of Belesar’ encapsulates everything that we love from looking at community creations. We want to be surprised by the sheer complexity of the community content and inspired to improve our tools to make it easier for anyone to create truly unique structures.
Please allow us to introduce the Creative Mode mod which is CardLife’s first official mod. Our mission for CardLife is to create a platform which is easily accessible to modders. Our work using the Connect the Dots system allows players to create unique structures regardless of their skill level. However, there will be times when modders will go beyond what we expect. In these cases they will create special mods which can be selected and de-selected when starting a new server.
The Creative Mode Mod is our first official CardLife mod. You will be able to craft any item regardless of the resources that you currently hold. Of which the number of items available to craft will grow all the time.
In addition to infinite resources, your character will also have a significant increase in health. This will make it very difficult to be killed by CardLife’s more aggressive wildlife and will allow you to go barehanded with a bear and come out of the scuffle with but a slight graze.
Alongside increased health, you’ll also have increased stamina and your hunger levels will no longer need to be maintained. With these unlimited creative tools we can only expect the complexity of your buildings will increase and we can’t wait to see what you make. The Creative Mode Mod will launch very soon and it is entirely optional to play.
FIREFLIES
Fireflies are just a small tease for the future. They make the game world feel much more alive and was the work of our superstar technical artist Thor. He developed these fireflies one day during his lunch-break. This shows just how committed the team are to create the best game we can as Thor is developing new content for the game when he really should be eating his lunch!
COMMUNITY BUILDS
One of the greatest things about working on CardLife is seeing the truly impressive structures that the community has created over the past few weeks. If you have made anything that you want others to see, make sure to post a screenshot within the CardLife forums, our discord channel or send it to us via Facebook or Twitter. Over the past month there have been some incredible builds from forum members Bremidon and Ro-Bert.
First up is Ro-Bert’s castle. Built atop a stone hill, the castle is still not yet complete and has quite a way to go before Ro-Bert’s construction is complete. Right now the side in the image is the only part that is complete but they plan to wrap the wall all the way round a field which is about 300 by 200 meters in size.
Bremidon is working hard on his villa, complete with a communal garden area and a massive arch entrance.
Moving the camera much closer shows off the pure scale of this build and the intricate customisations made to each cardboard structure as there are a plethora of windows for natural light.
Inside, the decor matches the grand scale of this structure and is complemented by a throne highlighted by twin torches. No doubt a fire risk, but warms the seat while the owner is away.
Thank you to both Ro-bert and Bremidon for sharing screenshots of their builds. If you are creating something in CardLife, make sure to tell us! We’d love to see it and share it with the rest of our community.
INSOMNIA 63 - COME MEET US
Two members of our development team, Andy and myself, will also be heading to Insomnia Gaming Festival in Birmingham, UK. The show is on from 24th - 27th August and you'll be able to meet us on the show floor, tell us your thoughts about the game and grab one of these super sleek game cards which have a code to download CardLife. This is the first time we've ever taken our cardboard survival game to any kind of show, so we're looking forward to seeing what kind of feedback we get.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Last week we released the Questworld update which included new tree’s two new creatures, a quest journal and a new armor type among other features. We’d like to thank many of you for the excellent response and feedback to the update.
There has also been a number of Youtubers who have played last week's update too. You can watch them here:
- Nexuzz World (Spanish language)
- Scrapman (English Language)
- Tilorius (German language)
- Nakashi (Czech Language)
- Stumpt (English language)
FEEDBACK AND QUESTIONS
We really hope that you love this new update and come across absolutely zero issues! However, as the game is still in development you will likely have a few bugs you may want to let us know about or have some questions about any of the content included in this DevBlog. Do not hesitate to get in touch with us via Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Discord and our Official forum to let us know what you think of the game. We want to make the best game we can and we can not do it without the help and support of our wonderful community.
All the best,
Chris Cleveland
